Samantha Quek marks her portrait mural, weeps tears of joy

Bhubaneswar: Great Britain’s hockey player Samantha Quek was singularly overwhelmed after seeing her painting on a road side wall near Capital Hospital on her travel around the city.

During the run up to Men’s Hockey World Cup, several steps were taken to sharpen the smart city. Mural paintings were one of the cards in the deck to inspire awe. The organisers roped in reputed artists to get the city walls play canvas, and it surely seems to be doing the trick.

The walls are now bearing a completely different look with paintings on variety of topics including rich heritage of the state, sports, stalwarts and unequivocally, Hockey.

The initiative seems to pay dividend with Samantha Quek identifying her portrait on a wall, and weeping tears of joy from the convivial gift that the city presented.

While she shared her feelings in her twitter handle, hundreds of fans and followers liked, retweeted and praised the gesture. Samantha heaped praises on the organisers as well.

30-year-old Samantha, a gold medalist in 2016 Olympics, has a long list of milestones. Her gold medal in 2015 when she was representing England in European Championship, silver medal in 2014 Commonwealth games are just a couple to make the list.

This hockey star, presently associated with an official broadcast channel for live telecast of the Men’s Hockey World Cup, is contributing her share in high flying spirits of Bhubaneswar.
