Sambalpur: Separate teams of Odisha Vigilance sleuths carried out simultaneous searches Monday at four different places associated with Sunil Kumar Panda, the Chief engineer-cum-chief electrical inspector of Sambalpur.
The searches were conducted as Panda has allegedly accumulated assets unknown to his legal sources of income.
Simultaneous raids are being conducted by four teams of the anti-corruption agency led by two DSPs, nine Inspectors, two assistant sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and other subordinate staff on the strength of a search warrant issued by Special Vigilance Judge in Sambalpur.
“Places where Vigilance searches are still underway include Panda’s residential building at Flat No-201, Block-A and parental house in Flat No-203, Block-A, both located at Green Park Residency in Sambalpur, Flat No-H/022 at Cosmopolis Project in Khandagiri of Bhubaneswar including his chamber located at Office of Chief Electrical Inspector, Western Zone, Left Lane No-4, Jagannath Colony, Budharaja locality in Sambalpur,” a senior official in the Vigilance team informed.

However, the valuation of disproportionate assets that the government official has amassed will be ascertained after the raids are over.
“Raids are likely to continue to detect all the movable and immovable assets of Panda. Vigilance officials have been scrutinising several important documents seized during the raids,” a senior official said.
It is pertinent to mention, a Vigilance case relating to the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 was registered Sunday against Sundargarh Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Biswajit Mohapatra and his wife for amassing assets unequal to legal sources of income.
Mohapatra was arrested in the case and has been forwarded to the Court of Special Vigilance Judge in Bhubaneswar later in the day. During the searches that lasted for nearly a couple of days, assets worth around Rs 10 crore were unraveled, a senior official claimed.
A source in the anti-corruption agency said that a case under Section 13(2), 13(1)(B)/12 of the Act has been registered against the duo.
