Sambalpur: The authorities made special arrangements to save the inmates of Deer Park from the scorching sun as intense heat wave conditions sweep the town with mercury hovering over 44 degree Celsius.
Keeping the sizzling heat in view, the authorities of Sambalpur Deer Park — which houses 333 animals belonging to 17 species — have made adequate precautionary arrangements like air cooler for leopards and bears, watermelon and cucumbers for birds and sugarcane juice for those in need to beat the heat.
At the same time, spraying of water on roofs covered with straw, spraying on sidewalls, medicine from the veterinary department to prevent heart ailments and nutritious foods to suit summer are the extra arrangements made by the park authority.
Further clean drinking water along with glucose water is provided according to the necessity.
“Animals and birds here do not get a natural environment as they were kept in enclosures,” Sambalpur DFO (Wildlife) Ansu Prangya Das said.
She said, “We do our best to keep them cool and safe from the heat to prevent dehydration adding that the spraying water keeps the enclosures cool. Even the water tanks helped the beers and other animals to take comfortable baths inside it.”
