Sambalpur minor girl alleges rape in captivity, rescued by locals

Sambalpur: In a bizarre incident, a man allegedly raped a minor girl in captivity on pretext of marriage in Rairakhol police limits of Sambalpur district.

The incident came to the fore after the victim was rescued by some locals in the afternoon. Subsequently, she lodged an FIR with the police.

According to police sources, the accused Basant Sahu had kept the 17-year-old girl from Uparamunda area in a rented house at Shyamapur area under Rairakhol police limits in the district.

“The man accompanied me to Rairakhol and physically abused me in a room where he had kept me confined. He was trying to sell me off to someone for money. I learnt about it when he was finalising a deal over phone,” the minor girl said.

After the girl vehemently opposed, the accused locked her in the room and went out. However, she was rescued by some neighbours who heard her screams for help.

Acting on the FIR, police registered a case and launched a probe, Rairakhol SDPO Hadibandhu Swain said.
