Sambalpur: Sambalpur is going to have a zoo soon. It will be set up at Jarang under Jujumara tehsil.
Officials of the forest and revenue departments conducted a joint survey and identified the land for the purpose.
DFO Sanjit Kumar, Sadar ranger Gourishankar Das and the Jujumara tehsildar visited the area. They have identified lands under various categories. About 80 acres of land have been earmarked.
If necessary, more forest land can be acquired. Infrastructure like a medical, stores and residential quarters will be built for staff on the revenue land.
A hill stream is in the area. It was decided that its water will be dammed up for use of animals.
DFO Sanjit Kumar said revenue land and reserve forest land have been identified.
“An expert team will be formed and it will prepare a drawing for the zoo,” he added.
