Dhenkanal: Some unidentified miscreants allegedly killed a samiti member late Friday night at Jamujhara village under Baruan panchayat in Tumusingha police limits of Dhenkanal district.
According to a source, the body of the deceased man was found in a pool of blood by some locals near his damaged car early Saturday morning. He was sent to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) for treatment. Doctors at the health facility, however, declared him ‘brought dead’.
The samiti member was identified as Deepak Mahunta. Exact cause behind the death has not been ascertained yet. However, circumstantial evidence suggests that it is a case of murder.
Deepak’s family also alleged that it is a case of political violence. “My father was murdered over political and business enmity,” the Deepak’s son Dibyadarshan said.

Deepak’s wife is sarpanch of Baruan panchayat, Dibyadarshan added.
On being informed by the family, Kamakhyanagar police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the incident.
Police have registered a case in this connection and a detailed probe is underway, Kamakhyanagar SDPO Ranjan Kumar Dey informed.
