Kendrapara: Derabish Tehsildar Akshay Kumar Parida was injured after a sand mafia allegedly attacked him in Kendrapara district, a source said Wednesday.
An FIR in this regard has been filed at Kendrapara Sadar Police Station.
The Derabish Tehsildar told that he and his team were executing a raid after receiving information February 17 about sand being illegally lifted at Gualsingh ghat and thereafter transported through a congested path near Teeni Mohani, endangering commuters.
According to Parida, on reaching Gualsingh ghat, they discovered a truck carrying sand.
The tehsildar asked the truck driver to produce appropriate documents for shipment to which the driver did not oblige.
As a result, the truck’s papers were seized and the truck driver was instructed to submit the vehicle to the tehsil office for more inquiry, but the driver instead directed the truck in the direction of truck’s owner Trilochan Sahoo’s residence.
Subsequently, the tehsildar and his team chased the truck. In the meantime, truck owner Trilochan and a few other people allegedly blocked tehsildar’s car and demanded the papers they had seized.
Trilochan made a forceful attempt to grab the papers. The tehsildar suffered major injuries when Sahoo slammed the car door, which injured his leg.
Tehsildar Parida has prayed for strict action against those accused of attacking government employees who were on duty and preventing them from doing their job.
It can be mentioned here that earlier Balasore Sub-Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan and his driver were attacked by a sand mining mafia while they checked the paperwork of a vehicle carrying sand.
