Nabarangpur: Students of a school here are forced to study under a tree as the institution doesn’t have a building.
The primary school of Mundaguda in the Mjahiguda panchayat of Papadahandi block in this district has 26 students. But the students are forced to study under a tree in summer as the school is functioning in a ramshackle shed made by local residents.
The people here said they had made two temporary classrooms, but the roof was blown away in a storm last year. Since then, the students are being taught under a tree during summer.
The problem doubles during the monsoon as the broken down shed is covered with a tin sheet.
The Education Department had sanctioned money for building classrooms. But the money got used up after the construction of the school building’s foundation and no funds were allotted after that.
The Block Education Officer, the DEO, BRCC and CRCC had also filed reports regarding this, but no action was taken.
Daitari Pujari, a teacher of the school, said the school doesn’t have classrooms and students are forced to study under a tree.
The people here had asked the Education Department many times to construct a building for the school, but nothing was done, Pujari added.
