Bhubaneswar, August 21: Self-proclaimed godman Sarathi Baba alias Santosh Raula was produced before the SDJM court in Cuttack Friday and was sent to judicial custody till September 2.
The court posted August 31 as the date for hearing on his bail plea. The crime branch (CB) team that visited Hyderabad to probe Raula’s stay with a female companion at a hotel there returned Friday, said sources. The team has reportedly collected CCTV camera footage from the hotel where Raula was staying, added the sources.
CB officials took Raula’s adopted son, Satyam Sekhar Raula, to the agency’s headquarters here for interrogation on the first day of his three-day remand beginning Friday. Satyam was brought to CB office from Choudwar Jail at around 10:35 am. Sources said at least four officials questioned him about his lifestyle, the places he used to stay and the number of bank accounts he has.
Trouble for the beleaguered godman increased further with a woman lodging a complaint with CB August 20 alleging he had molested her. A case was registered under section 354 (A) IPC.CB officials also Friday questioned the woman who had lodged a fake complaint at Mangalabag police station on behalf of the MBBS student, who had accompanied Sarathi to Hyderabad.
