Palembang: It was a good day for India at the Asian Games here, Tuesday with the shooters bagging a gold, a silver and a bronze medal while the men’s Sepak Takraw team and woman wrestler Divya Kakran also achieved podium finishes.
Teenage shooting sensation Saurabh Chaudhary became only the fifth Indian shooter to claim gold in the Asian Games history, beating a field of multiple World and Olympic Champions in the 10m air pistol finals here. It was an Indian dominated event with Abhishek Verma winning the bronze. Chaudhary scored 240.7 points to finish atop the podium while Verma got bronze with a tally of 219.3 points.
Shooter Sanjeev Rajput then came into the fray with a silver-winning performance in the in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, with a score of 452.7 points. China’s Hui Zicheng (453.3) bagged the gold.
In Sepak Takraw, India clinched a maiden Asiad medal despite the men’s regu team going down 0-2 defending champions Thailand. However, with both losing semifinalists being awarded bronze, the men’s team had a podium finish.
