SC notice to state over Sk Hyder’s bail plea

New Delhi: The Supreme Court (SC) Friday issued a notice to the state government over a bail application filed by gangster Sk Hyder, who has been in jail on charges of killing a man in Bhubaneswar in 2005.

A two-judge bench of Justice L Nageswara Rao and Justice MR Shah adjourned the hearing for four weeks.

Hyder had filed a special leave petition in the apex court February 19 seeking bail in a murder case registered against him in 2005.

He has been lodged in Jharpada special jail in Bhubaneswar.

Petitioner counsel Sarthak Nayak said a bail application had been filed in the Orissa High Court in 2011 which has been pending in the HC since then.

Hyder was allegedly involved in the murder of Sheikh Chuna, brother of gangster Sheikh Suleman, near the Stewart School in the state capital May 31, 2005. He was arrested by the Odisha police from Nagpur in the same year.
