New Delhi: The Supreme Court Thursday set November 27 as the next date for final hearing in the interlocutory petition filed by Odisha government seeking a stay on the Indirasagar Polavaram dam project.
A two-judge bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta has scheduled the application for final hearing after the state government counsel pleaded with the bench for early hearing in the matter Thursday.
Notably, the apex court had fixed November 15 for final hearing of the plea on the issue of stay after the Union of India had suggested that there is no need to study the backwater.
The counsel appearing for the Union government informed the court that a complete study had already been conducted on the Polavaram dam by M Gopalkrishnan, former member of Central Water
Commission, on the direction of apex court in 2011 and submitted the report. The counsel said there is no need to study the project any further.
