Cuttack: The cytology unit at the pathology department of SCB Medical College and Hospital here was gutted when a fire broke out at the establishment in the wee hours of Friday. The authorities did not cite any reason leading to the mishap.
Some employees of the pathology department spotted the fire in the morning and informed the fire brigade department. Soon the firemen reached the spot and doused the flames. It was learnt that most of the equipment at the unit were gutted. “We are yet to ascertain the causes behind the fire. Our officials would probe the incident Saturday,” said fire brigade official Natbar Nayak.
However, GED executive engineer Sikha Das suspected short-circuit as the cause of the mishap. “We have not received any details on the damage caused by the fire. We will ascertain the damage soon,” said SCBMCH administrative officer Kalpataru Behera.
The authorities, meanwhile, constituted a seven-member panel headed by superintendent CBK Mohanty to probe the incident. “The committee has been asked to submit its report within a week,” Behera added.
