Cuttack: Some doctors at Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) here are allegedly diverting patients from the government-run health institute to private hospitals.
A patient from Sahadebpur area of Cuttack district Tuesday lodged a complaint in this regard with the superintendent of SCBMCH.
As per the complaint, Sushant Tripathy of Sahadebpur was admitted to the Surgery department of SCBMCH with an abscess on his left leg February 12. A doctor had conducted several tests on Tripathy and asked the latter to admit himself to a private hospital for an operation.
The doctor concerned had refused to operate upon Tripathy immediately and asked him wait for some days when the latter refused to move to the private hospital.
The doctor concerned had shifted the operation date several times in last one month. He advised Tripathy to purchase some medicines from a private drug house when the latter contacted him Tuesday.
The drug house owner allegedly asked for Rs 12,000 from Tripathy to provide the medicines prescribed by the doctor. Subsequently, Tripathy raised the issue with the hospital superintendent.
“We would look into the issue. Now, we are arranging all possible treatment for the patient,” said SCBMCH superintendent CBK Mohanty.
