Scheme govt-sponsored chit fund: Cong

Bhograi: Amid allegations that non-eligible people posing as farmers have been applying for the KALIA scheme in almost all parts of the state, Congress leaders took a jibe at the government Thursday.

Addressing a press meet at the party office here in Balasore district, state Congress secretary Satyashiba Das said PEETHA and KALIA schemes are nothing but government-sponsored chit funds.

Coming down heavily on the government, the Congress leader of Bhograi said the launching of KALIA was an insensitive act.

He claimed that when people of Odisha are being suffocated by the misdeeds of the BJD government, PEETHA and KALIA will be disastrous for farmers.

As for Amma Gaon, Amma Bikash Yojana, Das said the scheme has been ‘Amma Binash’ (our destruction) scheme, while the Biju Yuva Vahini has turned out to be ‘Gunda Vahini’ (gang of hooligans).

The plans and schemes meant for women empowerment are only meant to cheat women, he alleged.

Das alleged that the government had earlier used to deposit Rs 25,000 in the joint accounts of sarpanchs and panchayat executive officers to create awareness about the PEETHA scheme, but now the money is being deposited in the account of PEOS, excluding sarpanchs.

Thus the government is bypassing the democratic system, he noted. He also accused the government of indulging in PC (percentage commission) business at the block level. About 20 percent commission is being cut from all project costs at the block-level, he alleged.

Das said that the results of the schemes will reflect in the coming polls and that a Congress-led government will take charge in the state.
