Berhampur: District administration of Ganjam Wednesday advised their education officers to close down the schools and Anganwadi centers in view of incessant rains and rising water levels in the rivers.
Owing to a flood-like situation in Ganjam, District Education Officer (DEO) Sanatana Panda — acting on the orders of the collector – suspended the classes.
According to DEO Panda, owing to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, the district has received heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours. The schools have been closed to ensure the safety of the students.
The teachers, however, have been asked to report to duty and help the administration in facilitating relief. In case of the climate change for the worse, the teachers would be provided shelter within the school premises itself.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast that heavy to heavy rainfall will likely to occur in the district and other areas in the state.
