Bhubaneswar, April 13: A large number of schoolchildren from both private and government schools took part in a parade organised to mark the 67th foundation day of the capital city near Master Canteen Square Monday.
“I feel proud to be born in this city. Neither I nor my father was born at the time of our city’s birth, but I have grown up here and so I love it very much. My city is developing by leaps and bounds and is now an education hub that draws young people from across the country to pursue their studies here. Naturally I’ll be

pursuing my higher studies here in the city,” said 14-year-old student Sushani Maharana from Capital Girl’s High School.
Schools across the city had asked their students much in advance to be a part of the various celebrations that would be organised on the occasion by the Capital Foundation Day Celebration Committee.
“Students were advised to participate in the foundation day of Bhubaneswar. More than 30 students from our school took part in this procession as a mark of respect to our city. We decided not to hold any programme at our school so that all of us could visit Master Canteen to see the parade,” said Sakti Prasanna Mohanty, a teacher from DAV Public School.
Headmaster of Unit-I Government Boys’ High School Pramod Kumar Das said it was an apt occasion to inculcate in students a spirit of belonging and pride about their city.
“Students are the future of our city. They will take this city forward, and so it is imperative that they realise the dangers posed by civic issues such as garbage and unclean surroundings,” said Das.
