Bhubaneswar: The state government Friday came to the rescue of a journalist who was in need of money for his kidney transplant.
The government provided an initial assistance of Rs 2 lakh from the Odisha Working Journalists’ Welfare Fund. Aditya Panda, a Dhenkanal district correspondent of an Odia daily, has lost both his kidneys. While his sister has agreed to donate one of her kidneys to Aditya, the transplant will cost around Rs 9 lakh.
On direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the advisor to Information and Public Relations (I&PR) department, Manas Mangaraj handed over a cheque of Rs 2 lakh to Aditya. After handing over the cheque, Mangaraj said steps are being taken to cover the remaining expenses of the operation.
