Bhubaneswar/Kendrapara: The alleged misbehaviour by Kendrapara Superintendent of Police (SP) Niti Sekhar with a journalist has created a furore with many journalists Thursday protesting the top cop’s highhandedness.
The Kendrapara SP landed himself in a controversy for losing his cool when he allegedly misbehaved with a TV channel reporter who was present in Patkura to cover Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s roadshow Wednesday.
The working journalists of Kendrapara district staged a demonstration in front of the District Collector’s office by wearing black badges and raised slogans protesting against the police.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to the district administration addressed to the CM, demanding action against the SP.
“It is unfortunate that the SP behaved so rudely with a working journalist and manhandled him. He even threatened to slap him. The incident happened when BJD leaders Pranab Prakash Das, Debi Prasad Mishra and Sanjay Das Burma were present. Later, Das Burma intervened and took the SP from the spot,” said a local scribe.
Meanwhile, a separate delegation of journalists Thursday met Director General of Police RP Sharma at the DGP Camp office at Bidyut Marg in Bhubaneswar on the issue. The city journalists submitted a memorandum seeking stringent action against Sekhar.
The reporters will Friday submit another memorandum to Governor Ganeshi Lal demanding stern action against the erring top cop.
