SDPO in soup over illicit affair

Bhubaneswar: A senior police officer’s wife has brought serious allegations of harassment and torture against the cop. The accused officer is currently posted as the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) in Angul district.

The victim has also lodged a complaint with the DGP, Abhay, seeking justice. She also alleged that no action has been taken against her husband yet.

According to her complaint, the couple got married in the presence of their family members July 13, 2004. It was a happy married life till the cop’s transfer to Jajpur as the inspector in–charge, a few months after the birth of their son in 2006. The policeman reportedly developed extramarital affairs with one of his lady colleagues, a sub-inspector (SI).

The victim alleged that his husband started torturing and harassing her without any reason due to the illicit relationship with the lady constable. She had also caught both the lady colleague and her husband in compromising position during the accused’s posting at Bhanjanagar. The cop reportedly apologised for the incident and assured the victim that he would end the relationship with the woman SI.

Later, the accused brought his wife and son to Bhubaneswar as his son took admission in a school here. The couple took a rented house in Chandrasekharpur area while the accused got posted as the SDPO of Angul. However, the victim recently came to know from various newspapers that his husband has filed a divorce petition against her at a court in Cuttack without her knowledge. When she accosted him, he revealed that he had already married his lady colleague in a temple in Cuttack in 2014.

The policeman had allegedly warned his wife of dire consequences January 27 this year, which included killing her with his service gun, if she disagreed for a mutual divorce.
