Cuttack, Dec 8: Residents of the Silver City were in for a pleasant surprise Monday morning when the season’s first fog greeted them.
The dense fog engulfed the city and continued unabated till around 11am making it tough for daily commuters to travel to their workplaces and other destinations.
According to Naradakanta Rout, a resident of Station Bazar, the fog was a welcome change. “It was a welcome sight but I had a tough time commuting to my office at 8am as the visibility was low,” he said.
Shakti Rath, a resident of Mangalabag said, “Since, I am a chronic asthmatic, I had problems travelling on my motorcycle. But, I could not postpone my work”, he said, adding the fog in the city is not winter-related but the result of high air pollution levels.
Arunima Dash, a bank employee, too had a tough time travelling to work. “I decided to take a bus and skipped travelling by my scooty. I reached the office late,” she added.
But, not all residents of Cuttack were bothered by the fog. Some enjoyed the chill that came along with it. Naresh Pradhan, a resident of Badambadi said, “The early morning chill was quite refreshing. The fog reminded me of my student days at the University of Delhi”.
According to the Meteorological department office at Bhubaneswar, the foggy conditions would prevail in the twin cities till December 15.
