Bhubaneswar: “Odisha is unlikely to witness a second wave of Covid,” said technical spokesperson of Health and Family Welfare department Jayant Panda, Saturday.
“There is no possibility of a second wave because we are being very cautious and observing the guidelines strictly. All the festivals, including Dussehra and Diwali, were held without much fanfare while several other festivals were cancelled this year,” he told reporters in Cuttack.
Panda further said, “We had anticipated that the state may witness a second wave of Covid-19 in the month of December. But, now we think that it is unlikely.”
However, he appealed the citizens to follow Covid norms and be cautious till February. Vaccine against the virus may also be available within a few weeks. After vaccination, herd immunity can be achieved, he added.
The daily Covid-19 cases have been decreasing from 5,000 to 400 while the daily death cases also decreased to four-five from 17-18. This shows that the efforts of government to flatten the Covid curve, which began some eight months back, have been successful, said Panda.
“Our training, testing and treatment policy was also completely successful. Due to successful implementation of the policy, Odisha is able to control the spread of Covid in comparison to many states of the country,” he claimed.
