Security beefed up for April 29 polls

Gop: Police and block administration have introduced several measures for free and fair elections in Gop area April 29.

Gop police have served notices on 78 persons with criminal records. “They have been served notices as per Section 107 of the IPC. We have warned them of stern action if their involvement is found in any illegal activity during the polls,” said Gop police in-charge Soumyachit Mishra.

It is learnt that people having criminal antecedents have been asked to submit affidavits before Gop tehsildar and executive magistrate Prithivraj Mandal.

The police have also beefed up night patrolling in all gram panchayats under Gop block. Special squads of Gop police have raided some liquor outlets in the locality.

“We have been thoroughly checking vehicles and keeping an eye on suspicious elements in Gop area. We expect smooth polling in all booths,” Mishra said.

Gop block administration has constituted two flying squads and as many surveillance teams to ensure free and fair polling. “We are strictly monitoring the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct for the polls. We have special plans to handle issues related to poll code violations. Till date, no contraband has been seized from any panchayat,” said Gop block development officer (BDO) and returning officer Diptirani Das.

It is worth mentioning that 14 panchayats of Gop block have been included in Nimapara Assembly constituency while as many panchayats are coming under Kakatpur Assembly segment. Besides, three panchayats of Gop block have been included in Puri Sadar Assembly seat.
