Cuttack: Seeded players performed splendidly in both the open and girls’ categories of the Odisha State U-13 Chess Championships, which was inaugurated at Sailabala Women’s College here Friday.
Thirty two players are sharing the top spot with two points each after the completion of the second round in the open category. Top seed Mahitosh Dey of Khurda lived up to his billing to prevail over Pratysh Nayak of Cuttack in the second round. Second seed Manish Kumar of Khurda checkmated Durgesh Mohanty of Cuttack while third seed Soyamsree Mohanty of Sundargarh registered a fighting victory over Aarav Singh. Fourth seed Rudranarayan of Puri outwitted Asmit Ansuman of Cuttack and fifth seed Jagdish Barik of Puri downed Abinash Acharya of Khurda.
In the girls’ segment eighteen players are sharing the lead with two points apiece after the completion of the second round. Top seed Yashita Rout of Khurda defeated citymate Anishka Pandey easily. Second seed Bijayalaxmi Barik of Khurda got the better of her citymate Advika Das.

Training camp
Cuttack District Athletic Association will organise a football training camp at the Bidanasi Ground here, May 13-26. Women footballers of all the age categories across the state are eligible to participate in the camp in which eminent coach Gitanjali Khuntia and AIFF grassroots instructor Durga Madhab Swain will impart training.
