Seized firecrackers explode at Patkura PS

Kendrapara: Firecrackers, seized by Patkura police from illegal firecracker manufacturing units of the locality during Diwali, blew up Wednesday when IIC of Patkura police station Sujit Pradhan was trying to defuse a large cache of illegal firecrackers on the premises of the police station.

The intensity of the blast was so massive that Patkura police station building was shaken and people living in proximity to the police station felt vibrations. Splinters of the firecrackers were found as far as 100 metres from the police station.

Subash Nandi, 20,  sustained injury as a portion of the concrete fell on his shoulder. Police said no injury was caused to anyone in the accidental explosion.

According to Sujit Kumar Pradhan, a huge cache of seized illegal firecrackers was stored on the malkhana of the police station. They were brought out Wednesday by Patkura police personnel with an aim to destroy it.
