Bhubaneswar: Police handed over Sunday to the Income Tax Department the case of the seizure of Rs 30 lakh liquid cash from a youth in this city. Khandagiri police had detained the youth Friday after finding the huge amount of cash with him. The youth identified as Mahaveer Prasad Das was waiting at the Tapoban filling station here when he was detained. He was apparently waiting for someone.
Locals informed Khandagiri police about Mahaveer when they noticed him moving suspiciously. Police personnel reached the spot and found on his possession Rs 30 lakh in a gunny bag. Since Mahaveer could not offer any feasible explanation regarding the liquid cash he was detained for interrogation.
However, the case took a new turn Friday itself when a youth identified as Pralay Kumar Padhi, came to the police station a few hours later. He claimed that the entire amount belonged to him. He said that he was in the pan masala business and he had sent Mahaveer to collect money from his customers spread across Odisha. Padhi asserted that there was no foul play involved.
