Self-styled godman Sura Baba of Trahi Achyuta ashram dies

Bhubaneswar: Self-styled and controversial godman Sura Baba alias Surendranath Mishra of Trahi Achyuta ashram at Jhinti Sasan on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar breathed his last Sunday night while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.

Mishra was admitted to hospital as he was not keeping well for the last couple of months. He was suffering from multiple ailments.

Mortal remains of the godman were taken to Trahi Achyuta ashram where his followers have been paying their last respect. His body will be cremated in the backyards of the ashram in Khurda district.

Notably, the godman and his two sons were arrested by the Balipatna police August 31, 2015. He was accused of land grab, exploiting women and criminal intimidation, including other serious charges.

The Trahi Achyuta ashram chief was released from Jharpada Special Jail December 2, 2017. He was lodged in Jharpada Jail for over two years following his arrest.
