Selfie craze claims lives of 2 students in Bargarh’s Kapil Dhara waterfall

Bargarh: Selfie craze proved fatal as two students met their watery grave after falling into Kapil Dhara waterfall while clicking selfies in Bargarh district Thursday evening, police said Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Papu Mahakud (18) and Khirod Soni (20) of Jhipiki village under Paikamal police limits in Bargarh district.

According to sources, Khirod, Papu and a friend had visited Nrusinghanath, Thursday afternoon. They were still there till evening. Then they proceeded towards Kapil Dhara. They were enjoying at the waterfall, clicking selfies. Unfortunately during one such moment, Khirod and Papu lost their balance and fell into the water.

Their friend immediately informed the police about the accident. Police along with fire personnel from Paikamal Fire Station reached the spot and conducted rescue operations. Later forest department officials also joined them. However, by the time the bodies of the two were located, they were already dead.

As the news broke, a pall of gloom descended on the village to which the two belonged.
