Bolangir: Ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state, senior leader Basudev Pati Sunday deserted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
Pati joined the BJD in presence of party’s vice-president Ananga Udaya Singh Deo and MLA candidate Arkesh Narayan Singh Deo at Sibtala in Bolangir.
Pati had contested twice on BJP ticket from Balangir Assembly constituency in 2009 and 2014 elections. While he was defeated by BJD’s Ananga Udaya Singh Deo in 2009, he lost to Congress’ Narasingha Mishra in 2014 elections.
