Senior citizens await ‘certificate’ for over one year

Manamunda: About 250 senior citizens of Manamunda police limits had applied for certificates at this police station over a year back. They have resented the apathetic attitude of the authorities.

Allegedly, they are being devoid of basic facilities provided by the state government. This certificate issued by police department provides senior citizens special privileges and security in different public offices, governmental and social programmes.

Senior citizens namely Lakshmindra Bagarti, Tirthabasi Mishra, Santosh Chand, Madhab Prasad Kheti, Krushna Mohan Sahoo and Ramakanta Garia expressed their plight, a report said.

They have staged protests at Manamunda police station and sought a meeting with the Superintendent of Police at Boudh if their grievance is not immediately addressed.

32 senior citizens were issued certificates over a year back. However, they have not been given any privilege so far, including the state-sponsored pilgrimage tour.

On being contacted, IIC Manamunda Gopinath Pradhan said, “On a priority basis, I will ensure issuing of certificates to all applicants. They will be given the certificates as soon as possible”.
