Mumbai: The Sensex slid over a 100 points after opening in the green while the Nifty shed close to 50 points during the morning trade session Monday.
Except for IT stocks on the BSE, all the others sectors traded lower. Oil and gas, capital goods and auto stocks lost over 1 per cent.
Investors were expected to be cautious ahead of the third quarter earning outcomes to be announced by companies like Eicher Motors, Andhra Bank, Motherson Sumi Systems on the day.
The Sensex of the BSE opened at 36,585.50 from its previous close at 36,546.48 Friday.
At 9.20 a.m., the Sensex traded at 36,436.91 lower by 109.57 points or 0.30 per cent.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) opened lower at 10,930.90 after closing at 10,943.60 Friday.
It traded at 10,893.80 during the morning trade session, down 49.80 points and 0.46 per cent.
Friday, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers and the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net sellers.
FIIs bought stocks worth Rs 843.73 crore while the DIIs sold stocks to the tune of Rs 960.04 crore.
