Bhubaneswar: An elderly man Sunday drowned while bathing in Devi River near Ranguni village under Dhauli police station limits here. The deceased was identified Shyam Sundar Sahoo, 78. He was a retired under secretary in the state government. He is survived by his wife and three children.
According to sources, he used to bathe in the river, which is just a few meters away from his residence, every day. However, Sunday, he accidentally fell into a deep pit on the river-bed after his feet slipped while taking bath. The incident took place around noon so there were no onlookers present at the place to rush to his help.
Few hours later, some locals spotted his body floating on the river water and informed his son. The villagers rushed him to Capital Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
His body was kept at the mortuary of the hospital as the autopsy is scheduled to be carried out Monday.
