Keonjhar: Dr Ujjwal Sahu! His name is enough for poor patients in Keonjhar. He is one of the generous hearts who has been serving the needy patients with his pension money.
The 79 year old homeopathic doctor believes in service to mankind to service to God, and has been rendering services to the needy for a long time.
A resident of Turumunga village under Patna block, Sahu is now focused on serving the destitute, helpless, poor and elderly people.
Recalling his service days, he said, “I started a job at the collectorate for Rs 80 per month in 1962. Later he switched to teaching in 1967.
After he retired in 2000, he dedicated himself to social service.
He completed his Homeopathy degree under Odisha State Homeopathy Board, Bhubaneswar in 1972 and since then there has been no looking back.
He launched ‘Asa Ame Maa Matira Seva Kariba’ campaign. With this drive, he has been rendering healthcare services to the poor free of cost. He has preferred to lead a simple life to save money for the poor.
He himself visits villages like Chumurigoda, Jharbeda, Nitthua, Hatibari, Kainda, Tribindha, Turumunga. He also helps people in their needs with food, clothes and medicines.
“His dedicated service to the poor is really commendable,” said former MLA Hrushikesh Nayak. MLA Jagannath Nayak was all also all praise about Dr Sahu.
Significantly, he has been extending financial assistance to some colleges, schools and temples.
Dr Sahu has a passion for literary pursuits and a concern for environment. “I will carry on my work till I breathe my last,” he said.
He has been awarded and honoured by various organizations for his noble work.
“Smiles on the face of people, their love and blessings have inspired me to lead life this way. I have seen a vicious circle of poverty and destitution of people. Despite that, they are happy,” Sahu noted.
