Bhubaneswar: Police has busted a fake job racket and arrested seven persons here on the charge of duping job-seekers by promising them postings in the Railways.
Action was swift after some of those allegedly duped by the company approached the Saheed Nagar police station. The company was styled as Universal Rail Private Ltd and located at the Tankapani Road in Bhubaneswar.
The firm posted advertisements in newspapers and released pamphlets saying it was enlisting youths for jobs as assistant goods guard etc in the Railways. A large number of youths approached the fake agency in the hope of getting jobs.
The men running the fake firm collected hefty fees ranging from Rs 40,000 to one lakh from the aspirants by promising them jobs. Later, feeling cheated, the victims reported the matter to police.
“Seven persons have been arrested and are being interrogated. A detailed investigation will be done based on their statements,” said a senior police official.
