Phulbani, August 6: Hearing a rape case at Darsinghbadi under Daringbadi police limits in 2014, fast track court judge Ananda Narayan Maharana Thursday handed down seven years of rigorous imprisonment to the accused.
The judge also slapped a fine of Rs6,000 on accused Gabriel Baliar Singh of Gahakia village in the case.
He would have to serve an additional jail term of three months in case the penalty amount is not realised, government advocate Pratap Patra said. According to the case diary, the victim had gone to a relative’s house to attend a feast June 8, 2014.
Next morning, she went outside to relieve herself. Finding the woman alone, Gabriel forced himself on her. She lodged a complaint with police July 2, 2014.
