Bhubaneswar: With an aim to achieve his Mission 120+ in Odisha, BJP chief Amit Shah has asked state leaders to expand the organisation at grassroots level, said a senior BJP leader here Monday.
“Shah has given various tasks to us. He has asked us to expand our organisation at booth level. We have over 36,000 booths in the state. We don’t have members in some booths. He has asked us to ensure our presence in every booth,” said Union minister Jual Oram here.
Frequent visits of Shah to the state assume significance as both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections are due here next year and can happen even earlier.
Shah Sunday held a series of meetings with state BJP leaders and workers of 21 Assembly constituencies. He also reviewed the progress of assignments he had given to various wings of the party, a party leader, requesting anonymity, said. He expressed satisfaction made by some wings of the saffron party while some other wings were asked to improve their work. He gave 30 new tasks to state leaders which he would review after two months, the BJP leader said.
The party chief asked state leaders to work harder to come to power in 2019. He also asked them to involve farmers, tribals, women and youth in party activities and focus them as they are a major vote bank in Odisha. The leaders have been instructed to reach out to every household and inform them about all welfare schemes and programmes of Modi government.
Shah avoided media and preferred to remain closeted with the party leaders only. This indicated that the BJP, who is eager to rule the state after next election, has changed its strategy for Odisha.
BJP MLA Pradeep Purohit said, party workers down the line get motivated when Shah visits here. He asked party workers to go to all villages and talk about Modi’s achievements, the amounts of money given by the Centre to the state government for development work and even to oversee whether this money has been spent properly by the BJD government or not.
Rubbishing Shah’s Mission 120+, BJD spokesperson PK Deb said, the Mission 120 was refuted by the Union petroleum minister a few days back, saying the target is around 79. Every party is strategizing their electioneering process.
