Shaky lampposts on NH-26 pose threat to people

Nabarangpur: The street lights along NH-26, starting from Chaunriagada up to Indravati Bridge here are not working. Only the lights in the bordering areas of Nabarangpur municipality are working and those beyond that limit have become defunct months ago.

Lights are not the only problem; even their poles are in precarious condition, posing a threat to the lives of passersby. Commuters find it dangerous to move on this road during rain and wind as they fear the utility poles may fall upon them.

It is learnt that the utility poles erected at a huge cost have become defunct just in two and a half years. In view of the frequent cyclonic storms in this region, local people have demanded immediate replacement of the utility poles and lights.

Nabarangpur Collector Ajit Kumar Mishra said, “As this has already come to my notice, I will take necessary steps in this regard.”
