Shardul Thakur is thrilled after getting his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket

Johannesburg: Shardul Thakur picked up his maiden five-wicket haul as India bowled out South Africa for 229 in their first innings on the second day of the second Test here Tuesday. Shardul Thakur (7/61) ran through the hosts’ batting line-up after Keegan Petersen (62, 118b, 9×4) truck a fine half century before lunch. His knock and another half century by Temba Bavuma (51, 60b, 6×4, 1×6) helped South Africa get an important lead of 27 runs

Resuming at the overnight score of 35 for one, South Africa added 53 runs before losing skipper Dean Elgar for 28 but Petersen held the other end firm. He however, was also dismissed by Thakur before lunch. Some useful contributions by Kyle Verreynne, Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj (all got 21 apiece) enabled South Africa to go past the Indian total.

The visitors were all out for 202 in their first innings with KL Rahul the only one to put up some resistance against the South Africa pace attack.
