Phulbani: What appears to be a case of medical negligence, a woman operated upon for tubectomy has come back to the hospital for delivery. The woman was admitted to Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in an advanced stage of pregnancy Monday.
However, the woman is believed to have conceived much before the family planning operation was conducted on her. Locals have expressed resentment over the manner in which the tubectomy operation was done while the woman was pregnant.
The hospital authorities are trying to suppress the incident. Moreover, the medical certificate which had to be given to her was not given.
Sources said the woman, Rekha Nayak, the wife of Subash Nayak of Nuasahi village in the Baliguda block of Kandhamal district, is under treatment from August 31, and the doctor had advised her to undergo a caesarian surgery.
A sterilisation camp was organised on the premises of Charakhama hospital February 4 and the accredited social health activist (ASHA) Didi Janhavi Patra has taken Rekha to the camp to get her sterilised.
Later, she was found to be pregnant and this was brought to the notice of the hospital authorities. Didi has also admitted that Rekha is in an advanced stage of pregnancy.
Giving his views on the incident Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) Manoranjan Rout said, “The doctor concerned is on leave. Things will be checked after he comes back.”
