Sheep killing continues unabated

Barang: An unknown animal once again killed a sheep by entering into a pen at Naraj Gopalsahi Monday night.

The animal(s) had killed 15 sheep in the village Saturday night.

The incidents spread panic among the villagers rearing sheep for their livelihood.

According to the villagers, Bairagi Das and his wife Tophani Das had availing loan from a local self-help group to rear sheep. The animal(s) targeted the sheep pen of the Das couple Saturday night and killed 15 sheep. Two more sheep had gone missing in the incident.

Forest department officials and a veterinarian Sunday examined the carcasses and suspected that some animal had killed the sheep.

The officials had advised the villagers to keep vigil at night and illuminate their sheep pens as a precaution against the animal attack.

However, the unknown animal again attacked a pen at Kailash Das’s backyard Monday night and killed a sheep.

“Altogether 22 sheep were in the pen. We heard some sound coming from the pen around 2 am. We entered into the pen and found the carcass,” Kailash said.
