Suri (West Bengal): Simply shocking to say the least. Two girls were allegedly raped by six boys including an 11-year-old in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. All the accused have been arrested, police said Monday. The police are themselves in a shock as to how an 11-year-old minor can be involved in the rape of the two girls.
A juvenile court sent the boys to a government home till January 26. The girls are being treated in a hospital where doctors have confirmed that they have been sexually assaulted. Both the accused and the victims were tribals.
The incident occurred Saturday evening. A local festival was going on in their village under Rampurhat police station area bordering Jharkhand. The two girls were returning home from a village grocery store. The six accused forcibly took them to a nearby forest and raped them, police said.
The victims did not say anything about the incident to their family members after going back home. But they started suffering from some ailments Sunday. They were taken to Rampurhat Sub-divisional Hospital. Doctors at the hospital suspected rape and informed the police.
A team led by Rampurhat SDPO Shayan Ahmed went to the village and arrested the six accused Sunday night.
Locals in the village are also shocked at the turn of events. They said that being from the same village the victims and accused knew one another. More importantly they cannot believe that an 11-year-old can commit a heinous crime like rape. Police will again question all the accused Tuesday to ascertain how the alleged crime was committed.
