Basudevpur: A shop that had opened at Block Road near Basudevpur market in Bhadrak district a month ago offering costly articles at far less prices in instalments has done a moonlight flit with crores of rupees collected from gullible customers.
According to a source, Durga Agency had opened the shop in the month of November. The owner of the shop, who is said to be a man from another state, had promised people that his shop would sell various articles including home appliances at a lesser price and in instalments.
Some people took the bait and deposited their hard-earned money amounting to Rs 2 crore with the shop hoping to get their desired articles.
Some customers reached the shop Saturday morning to take home their ordered articles. Reaching the shop, it took hardly any time for them to realise that they had been taken for a ride.
As the news spread, thousands of such duped customers thronged in front of the shop and created a ruckus.
On being informed, Basudevpur police reached the spot, pacified the angry people and sealed the shop. They have launched an investigation, it was learnt.
