Bhubaneswar: The story of the youngest martyr of the freedom struggle from Odisha, Baji Rout, is to be retold in an upcoming short film. Baji – the Immortal Boat Boy, being directed by up and coming director Chinmoy Das, tells the story of the 12-year-old boy, who was shot dead by the British police when stood up against them and refused to ferry them across the Brahmani River in 1938. The film is releasing in October.
The movie is being produced by Prelude and it has been scripted by Sumit Panda. Das believes the story, although it is being told in short, is important for the young generation and inspires them to be patriotic.
Baji, who was born October 5, 1926, at Nilakanthapur in Dhenkanal district, had inspired many to take part in the freedom struggle. He was killed October 11, 1938.
The short-film, the director said, has been picturised in scenic locations across Odisha and that it was in the post-production process.
