Shreyash, Arushi seal tiles

Winners of Odisha State U-11 Chess Championships pose with their trophies and certificates along with guests at Puri, Sunday   

Puri, June 10: Shreyash Shuvam Patnaik of Cuttack and Arushi Srichandan of Khurda emerged champions in the Open and the Girls’ categories of the Odisha State U-11 Chess Championships, which concluded here Sunday.

In the open category Shreyash clinched the title with six points after the completion of the seventh and the final round. Sriansh Das of Jajpur and Soyamsree Mohanty of Sundargarh garnered 5.5 points each, but they had to be satisfied with the runner-up and third place finish respectively on the basis of tie-breaker. Gopin Murmu of Dhenkanal secured the fourth position while Aditya Anurakta Mohanty of Cuttack stood fifth.

In the seventh round Shreyash forced Aditya to share points with him. Sriansh signed peace with Soyam Laxmidatt D Sabat of Cuttack. Soyamsree played out a stalemate with Gopin.

In the girls’ category Arushi took the top honours with 6.5 points from seven rounds. Anishka Pandey of Khurda emerged runner-up while Palak Mohapatra of Cuttack secured the third position. Krishna Arpita of Khurda finished fourth and Dolisiyash Das of Cuttack stood fifth.

In the final round Arushi outwitted Dolisiyash. Anishka hold Yashita Rout of Khurda in a keenly-contested match while Palak prevailed over Sai Samprada Mohanty of Cuttack. Krishna Arpita downed Prakruti Rout of Cuttack in a lop-sided encounter.
