Singapore delegation meets CM, Deputy CMs

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Thursday met with Republic of Singapore High Commissioner Simon Wong, and Consul General Cheong Ming Foong at Lok Seva Bhawan here and discussed future investment prospects and job creation opportunities in the state. The delegates expressed their willingness to collaborate with the state government across multiple sectors. Earlier, Wong called on Deputy CMs Pravati Parida and Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.

They discussed various ways to improve the skills of women from the state for better job opportunities, as well as potential collaboration in the tourism sector. “We seek a long-term partnership with Singapore which prioritises the mutual interests of both the countries,” Deo said.

Deo proposed Singapore government invest in Buddhist monasteries and beaches in the state. In the meeting, Wong said, “Odisha is an investment-friendly state. We are planning to invest in various sectors here. We have already invested 15 billion US dollars in Odisha.” Wong informed that they are interested in promoting investment in tourism sectors and ports, and sought the cooperation of the state government in this direction. He appealed to the deputy CMs to accept Singapore as a partner country for investment in the coming days and invited the minister to visit Singapore. With the launch of direct flights connecting Bhubaneswar to Singapore, the state government is hopeful of an increase in a number of foreign tourist arrivals in the state by 2025, an official said.
