Six inter-state dacoits arrested in Nayagarh district

Nayagarh, Dec 4: Police Thursday claimed to have busted a gang of inter-state dacoits by arresting six of its members during raids at various locations in this district.
The police seized 300 gm of gold ornaments, 10 kg of silver ornaments, two live bombs, five mobile phones, one jeep, one motorcycle, sharp-edged weapons, firearms and two toy pistols from their possession, said superintendent of police (SP) Manoranjan Mohanty while addressing the media at Itamati police station.
The accused were identified as Satyaban Moharana (38) of Odagaon, Krushna Chandra Mohanty (32) of Ranpur, Kabir Moharana (48) of Itamati, Bibhuti Pradhan (29) of Fategarh, Kalandi Subuddhi (42) of Itamati and Anil Mitkani, hailing from Sangli in Maharashtra, and currently residing at Sunakhala. One of their accomplices, Prafulla Pradhan alias Jhulu of Asnapalli village was arrested earlier, the SP said. All the accused were later produced in a court.
Apart from their involvement in eight dacoity cases in their home district, the accused have also cases of dacoity and robbery registered against them in Sonepur, Boudh, Ganjam, and Angul districts. A case of murder is pending against Satyaban for killing a man in Kantamal of Boudh district. Earlier, Satyaban was jailed for his involvement in ganja smuggling and was awarded 10 years of imprisonment. Anil used to buy gold and silver ornaments from the dacoits and later melt them before selling them elsewhere. All of the accused will be brought on remand for interrogation, Mohanty said.
