Sleeping man beheaded in Sambalpur

Sambalpur:  Miscreants decapitated a man in his sleep at Tileimal village under Ainthapali police limits in this district Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Satyanarayan Munda, 50.

Satyanarayan was sleeping on his verandah with a mosquito net over his bedding on the fateful night. Local people believe the miscreants committed the crime while Satyanarayan was fast asleep, as the circumstantial evidence does not show any sign of protest.

On being informed, Ainthapali police along with a scientific team reached the spot, recovered the decapitated body and launched an investigation.

While the reason behind the crime is yet to be ascertained, post-mortem report would provide some leads regarding the time of death among other things, police sources said.

Notably, two incidents of attacking people in their sleep were reported from Jamurda village on the outskirts of Bargarh town and Karnapali village under Birmaharajpur police limits in Sonepur district Sunday.

In the first incident, the deceased — identified as Basant Pradhan — was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants while he was asleep on the terrace of his sister’s house at Jamurda village on the outskirts of Bargarh town police limits in this district.

In the second incident, Basudev Khandigiri — a resident of Karnapali village under Birmaharajpur police limits in Sonepur district — was attacked by an unidentified miscreant with a sharp weapon while he was sleeping on the terrace of his house.
