Slight decrease countrywide in the number of new Covid-19 infections

New Delhi: India’s total tally of Covid-19 cases climbed to 1,76,36,307 Tuesday with 3,23,144 people testing positive for the disease. The national recovery rate further dropped to 82.54 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated Tuesday.  However, the number of new cases has slightly decreased in comparison to Monday. India reported 3,52,991 Covid-19 infections Monday. However, the overall situation remains grim, the Health Ministry said with more than three lakh cases being reported for the sixth consecutive day.

The death toll increased to 1,97,894 with 2,771 daily new fatalities, the Health Ministry data updated at 8.00am showed.  This is also the highest number of fatalities reported in the country on a single day.

Registering a steady increase, the active cases now stand at 28,82,204 comprising 16.34 per cent of the total infections.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease went up to 1,45,56,209. However, the case fatality rate further dropped to 1.12 per cent, the data stated.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark August 7, 50 lakh September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28 and surpassed the one-crore mark December 19. India crossed the grim milestone of 1.50 crore April 19.

According to the ICMR, 28,09,79,877 samples have been tested up to April 26 with 16,58,700  samples being tested Monday. The Health Ministry also informed that till Monday more than 14 crore people have received vaccine jabs.
