Bhubaneswar: Angry residents of Shantinagar slum in Unit III area gheraoed the Kharavel Nagar Police Station Sunday raising serious charges against the police, including the IIC.
The protesters said the police had arrested six innocent persons for alleged gambling Monday evening.
The residents also said that IIC Sahu had demanded Rs 40,000 from the families of the arrested to release them. The protesters demanded the immediate removal of the IIC.
Sources said the police raided Shanti Nagar where some people were playing the Ludo game Monday evening. The cops arrested six people while others fled from the spot.
Police said the arrested men were placing bets during the game in full view of many onlookers.
Speaking to Orissa POST, IIC Sahu rejected all the charges made by the slum dwellers. “The accused were placing cash bets during the game. So we arrested them,” he said.
