Slums in city to get eco-friendly toilets

Bhubaneswar: Debasish Mishra, District Governor Elect, Rotary International District 3262, conducted the ‘Bhumi Puja’ for the Bio-toilet Global Grant project, 1757749 in Nila Pani Tank i Basti, Unit 8, Bhubaneswar Thursday. Four toilets for ladies will be installed in the slum in the first phase as part of a project to construct 40 eco friendly toilets in ten slums of Bhubaneswar.

Dr Torulata Dwivedy spoke about the inception of the project. Incoming District Trainer, Jayashree Mohanty of E-Club briefed the gathering about the project and Dr Sudeep Sen spoke about technical features of the bio-toilet. Manasi Das, Coordinator LWSI spoke about the capacity building of mahila mandals to manage the product. The chief guest, Debasish Mishra, addressed the gathering about the role of Rotary and the Foundation in community service.

The project is jointly undertaken by Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar, New Horizon, Rotary E Club, Bhubaneswar, RC Hills Kellyville and RC Caloundra of Australia, RID 3262, Rotary Foundation and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. The cooperating partner for the project is Lutheran World Society, India. It is sponsored partially by FEDCO and executed by BTL, Kolkata.
